NAAC
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. It is an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. To address the issues of quality, the National Policy on Education (1986) and the Plan of Action (POA-1992) advocated the establishment of an independent national accreditation body. Consequently, the NAAC was established in 1994 with its headquarters at Bangalore. Assessment and Accreditation is broadly used for understanding the “Quality Status” of an institution. In the context of Higher Education, the accreditation status indicates that the particular Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) – a College or any other recognized Unit therein, meets the standards of quality as set by the Accreditation Agency, in terms of its performance, related to the educational processes and outcomes, covering the curriculum, teaching-learning, evaluation, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organization, governance, financial well being and student services.
Benefits of NAAC Accreditation for an Institution
Here are some of the major benefits of NAAC accreditation -
- NAAC accreditation helps a higher learning institute to know its strengths, opportunities, and weaknesses through an informed review process.
- NAAC identifies the internal areas of planning and allocation of resources.
- NAAC accreditation will help funding agencies with objective data so that they can take a decision on the funding of higher learning institutes.
- NAAC grade/assessment will help educational institutes to initiate modern or innovative methods of pedagogy.
NAAC Parameter/Indicators
NAAC assesses the higher learning institutes based on the following parameters or indicators –
- Teaching-Learning & Evaluation
- Infrastructure & Learning Resources
- Research, Innovations & Extension
- Curricular Aspects
- Governance, Leadership & Management
- Student Support & Progression
- Institutional Values & Best Practices
Preparation of NAAC in our College
A Committee for NAAC has been properly constituted in our college under proper guidance and supervision of the Principal of the college. The entire college community is now engaged in the rigorous process of preparing Self-Study Report (SSR) on behalf of the college. All faculty members, non-teaching staff, stakeholders, members of Alumni Association and other important Cells/Committees are now taking active parts in the entire process of forthcoming NAAC visit. Here, the IQAC of the college is playing a significant role in covering and fulfilling all the norms/parameters of self-evaluation.
