Department of English

The Department of English found its genesis at Maharaja Nandakumar Mahavidyalaya in the Academic Session of 2007-08 with the extension of affiliation of Vidyasagar University for opening the new course of study. Since its inception the dept has been rendering its untiring and meticulousindustry, and after traversing almost a decade it has grown considerably. Initially though it had to grapple with hardships for the perusal of a language and literature foreign to regional native people but the infant that tottered in its maiden steps has oriented andaccumulated substantialsinews strength for its solid footing. Right at this moment the department is bent on pledging its motivation for the dissemination of learning that aims at touching the global status. Our dept, on close observation of state of English learning globally, is hailing the new literary trends with earnestness. Teaching strength for the sacred mission has been empowered, and a parallel effort is also envisaged for the development of soft skills and communication skills so that the students feel comfortable to vie with the world outside. Students are also motivated for partaking in the interdisciplinary studies and they are also afforded with the up-to-date ICT learning aids. The dept in its mission of imparting knowledge to the learners has retained the history of developing the critical and methodological openness. It has given access to the new approaches to the literary studies without being oblivious of its traditional strengths. Apart from the perusal of UG Hons.and General Courses, both the Annual System and the newly introduced CBCS Semester format, the dept now aspires for opening Masters in English in the near future as it has its faculty sufficiently enriched. So, all the students, alumni, and the stakeholders are welcome to the dept. of English for joining hands together for the fruition of our noble mission of dissemination of knowledge.
